Mashed potato is one of my all time favourite comfort foods. I genuinely thought I was alone in this feeling until I suggested going to a restaurant that specialises in mashed potato to friends and their freak out confirmed that I'm not. Turns out everyone loves mash!
Mother Mash is based just off Carnaby Street on Ganton Street, which is behind Hamleys toy shop if you're coming from Regents Street. They serve 8 types of freshly made mash, 9 types of sausage, 5 types of pie, 5 types of gravy and daily specials. Plus they have gluten and diary free options too! There's a variety of other things on the menu like breakfast, sides and dessert but lets not even pretend you're going there for them.
The hardest thing about this place is deciding what type of mash to go for. Not even kidding I spent half a day deliberating between Irish mash, bubble and squeak and sweet potato mash. Then there's the task of choosing between pie or sausages. Gravy was super easy for me though as I'm addicted to onions so naturally went for the most oniony option.
For sides we had the pan fried french beans with garlic and parsley which were lush and a bowl full of caramelised onion which for an onion addict like myself was an absolute dream come true!
I'll definitely be heading back soon as I haven't stopped talking about this place since our visit. I've always loved pie and mash shops and Mother Mash is basically a fancy version of one with an amazing central London location. At under £10 per meal its affordable for the area and price wise I'd put it in the same category as Nando's and Vapiano.
Overall I'd 100% recommend Mother Mash, maybe skip the dessert though. If you visit this December you can also check out the beautiful Christmas lights on Carnaby Street and Regents Street too!
Until next time, J xx
